Sr. Manager, Rural Utilites Service (RUS) Operations

Location: Nephi, UT

Job Description:

The Senior Manager of Rural Utility Service Operations is responsible for management of teams completing the necessary engineering, permitting, project management, and construction related tasks for customers engaged in RUS/Reconnect activities. This position will also partner with others in the organization to provide outstanding support and communication to current customers as well as assist others in conversations promoting our services and offerings to prospective customers. The ideal candidate for this role will be a highly detail-oriented people leader who is very organized with excellent analytic and problem-solving abilities and thrives in a dynamic, fast paced environment with many simultaneous projects. Additionally, they possess excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills when client or company facing with high energy and a “can do” attitude.

This is a Hybrid position based in our Nephi, Utah office.

Essential Job Functions:

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides direction, oversight, team leadership, and management of the RUS team including mentoring, training and helping to establish standards, processes, and procedures.
  • Close collaboration with customers to create project timelines, maximize opportunities, and mitigate risks.
  • Manage and lead a team engaged in various aspects of RUS operations including permitting with federal/state/local government agencies, overseeing field teams and work with engineering and project management teams.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and exceptional customer service with the RUS operations team.
  • Tracks project schedules to ensure customer expectations and schedule requirements are met.
  • Partners with construction vendors to ensure that construction crews meet production, quality, and safety goals.
  • Assists other leaders to add and retain customers including attending virtual and on-site meetings and reviewing customer needs to create proposals and/or action plans.
  • Interacts with jurisdictions and/or other entities to evaluate and gain access to ROW and other easements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure effective operation of the department and the Company.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Thrive in a dynamic, fast paced environment with many simultaneous projects.

Must have excellent talent management skills while being responsible for overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the team and processes.

Must have a working knowledge of outside plant design and construction.

Solid understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance related to rural utility services

Excellent verbal communication skills and writing skills with the ability to clearly explain issues. Passion for exceeding customers’ needs and expectations through exceptional customer service.

Ability to interpret maps, legal documents, descriptions, and engineering plans while analyzing data and documents.

Ability to prepare accurate and concise written reports.

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Prior Experience & Education:

Must meet minimum requirements

5+ years managing telecom projects from inception to completion

Prefer 5+ years management or project management experience

Proven experience with RUS awards or other government-appropriated programs strongly preferred

Technical Skills:

Strong knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel (required), PowerPoint, Outlook. SharePoint experience a plus.

Must be familiar with telecommunications terms and infrastructure. Proficient in AutoCAD, GIS, and Google Earth

Must be willing to learn new software as necessary.

Skills and Abilities:

Good decision making, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to complete tasks with latitude to decide what work will be required well in advance of actual activities and meet critical deadlines.

Excellent organization, time management and follow up skills and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.

Demonstrated interpersonal communications skills including the ability to listen and understand customers, as well as ability to work in a team environment.

Hybrid Schedule (In Office 3 days a week/WFH 2 days a week)
